Just found out one of my secondary school classmates (way back in the 90s) died in an accident in Idaho, USA. When I saw her name in the news, I already suspected but was not hoping and din expect it to be really her.

We are drawing near to the middle of the year and I'm feeling good about this year so far, with a new boss, same but more fulfilling job (no more personal shit!), new & beautiful house in Jun (under reno), long holiday trip in Jul, Georgi's diet successful (now can feel his ribs!).. everything is going well for me and im looking forward to fatter bonus/increment next month... I hope the rest of the year will be smooth sailing too :)

I've got the news! I'm finally free from hell! Leaving that shit arse son-of-a-bitch and his entire bitch family! Totally wasted these 4 years slogging for nothing. 2 more days to my "new role" with a new boss and the shit arse has nothing to say to me. Not even a simple thank you for helping him these past 4 years and taking in all his and the bitches personal shit (which is not even part of my job!). He is less than a human!

Georgi lost 1.5kgs after feeding on just vegetables, dehydrated food and fruits! Still need to lose at least a couple more kgs before he is at his ideal weight.. Happy :D

THE EXPENDABLES

Power cast with funny dialogues and explosive + insane actions as expected . But I have to say some of the effects looked quite fake (too digitalised). This is one super old-school and "very man" movie, although I thought Mickey Rourke & Bruce Willis were kinda underutilised. Anyway overall, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. It was great fun watching them having fun.

SANDCASTLE

I have to say I totally enjoyed this local production! This is really one movie that showcased the talents of our local film makers. An easily identified, down-to-earth story with some light humour (I thought the funniest one was the presentation on National Day Parade preparation). Whole show was rather slow paced but the flow was engaging enough to keep you watching. I was quite surprised (pleasantly) by the bold move on the bed scene. However I tot the abrupt end was a little too artistic for me to digest. Maybe it's supposed to be thought provoking?

Caught these movies recently. Was too busy to update.

PRECIOUS

A well told story and remarkable performance by the entire cast. I was enraged by the abuses and inhumane acts but moved by the strength and courage Precious had. A story of tribulations and transformations. It may be a little too late for me to say this but you cannot miss this movie. Get the DVD or what, you just have to watch it.

LETTERS TO GOD

Intentions were good but too weak a story line. Expected something more inspiring, however this is too preachy. Cannot take it. I think it's more a movie for devoted Christians.

THE CRAZIES

Another viral and zombie movie and it's really quite crazzzy. Although I did not see the original one in 1973 but I think this remake turned out well (in general usually remake version is fail.com). Quite fast pace and sometimes will drive you to the edge. Not bad for a scary movie.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

This was an awesome piece of suspense movie! Provocative, violent, sadistic, compelling and dark. Lisbeth is very very cool! I heard the book is better with more details but nonetheless this show is a good watch.

I have to say all credit goes to Angelina Jolie with her solid performance - she is so man! However her character Salt was just too good and too cool to be true...

Caught OLD COW VS TENDER GRASS with Penny last Fri.

This movie was never in my "To watch" list but Penny kept telling me so much about her experience with the crew on their numerous outdoor meet & greet sessions, until I decided to catch it. And of course the main reason for me to watch the movie is coz of the handsome husky! haha... Overall a genuinely funny and light hearted movie, and most importantly not over exaggerated. Very Singaporean so we can all definitely relate to.

Went for the preview of AFTERSHOCK.

This film was based on the Tang Shan earthquake on 28 July 1976, which took 240,000 lives. A truly emotional piece with some humorous conversations, simply a mixture of joy and sorrows. It does not focus on just the disaster but also on how the survivors pick up the pieces and moved on with their lives from the ordeal. The effect of the earthquake was really quite an impact. I feel that some parts should be elaborated further but was kinda skipped abruptly, maybe not enough time coz the whole show already lasted 130mins. Overall I really appreciate the movie. It's worth watching.

INCEPTION

Very original, intellectual and super brain-twisting! With all the dreams going on, it had come to a point I dun even know what is real anymore. I also missed out or misheard one part, which Baby explained to me, after the show and then it made more sense. This is one movie you have to open your eyes and ears wide throughout, can't afford to miss out a single detail, in order to be able to follow thru and not get confused. On a side note, I think I'm beginning to like Leonardo. He is just getting better and better in his acting skills, not the boy boy style anymore.

DESPICABLE ME 3D & OCEANS

Caught these 2 movies over last weekend.

DESPICABLE ME in 3D

This is one movie that is really worth in 3D! It was such a joy watching it and the characters inside were really adorable! The minions looked so much like soya beans and I love the cookie robots! The 3D effects worked really well, especially on the roller coaster scene. You literally felt like you were on it - COOL! Overall hilarious, heartwarming and super engaging with quite a number of suprises that will make you LOL. Simply a fun movie to watch (both kids and adults)

OCEANS

Totally magnificent! Videography was stunning! Thou a bit dull in the beginning but the overall journey was amazing. It captured both the beauty and brutality of the ocean, especially unforgettable was the scene whereby the fishermen were chopping off sharks' fins, then threw them back into the sea and let the poor finless sharks bleed to death. That was utterly cruel! I'm kinda going to anti shark's fin already. I would highly recommend animals/oceans lovers to catch this documentary.

一波未平一波又起...

This is really one example of my post title.

Georgi got into another problem while still recuperating from his dislocated shoulder - rotten flesh on his left front leg. Couple of days after removing the bandage, I noticed something like a blood cot or black hard scab somewhere above the paw of the injured left leg. I could not figure what exactly it was cos he was too furry. I also saw and felt something similar on the elbow of the same leg. I assumed it was jus a scab, which will fall off in due course.

I did not notice any change initially but I realised Georgi kept licking that area. Thinking that his lickings might help to loosen the scab and eventually fall off (naively thinking dogs' saliva has healing purpose). But to my horror, it started to rot and by the time I notice it again on Saturday, it had become really bad to the extent you could see part of the tendon - it was a deep wound. I quickly arranged for him to see the vet again on Sunday at Balestier branch (this time another different vet on duty) as I could not wait until Mon to see Dr Eugene Lin. The vet said it was due to the bandage that time that caused the rash and also coz Georgi kept licking it, it soon became an open wound. I can't help but blame myself for not detecting it earlier. At the same time, I also highlighted to her the scab on the elbow.

The vet shaved off his fur on the two areas so she could dress the wound properly. Was so glad the rash on the elbow was very minor and only need to go through everyday with the cleaning lotion. Luckily Georgi was not able to reach to lick his elbow, otherwise that area will rot the same way too. The wound on the other area (above the paw) was so deep and bad that Georgi was whining in pain again. The vet already dressed and bandaged the rotten part and same steps need to be repeated every other day. Total bill S$202 (including the 5kg Hill's Presciption J/D Canine kibbles @ S$75). He is supposed to be on low fat diet so from now onwards I can only get Georgi's dry food from veterinary clinics.

After the bandage on Sun, I did my first dressing on Mon nite and thank God, the wound was smaller. I'm doing a new dressing tonight and hope it's even smaller by then.

This Sat is the follow up review and I hope by Fri, the open wound will be almost healed.

Sigh.. 真是一波未平一波又起....

Georgi injured again

My excited boy got injured again after being over-excited when he saw one of us back home. He turbo-ed the whole house, made a sharp turn and dislocated his left shoulder.

It happened on the night of Tue, 29 Jun and we brought him immediately to ARC Balestier branch and saw Dr Madeline Soo (vet on duty). She is a very nice doc and very comforting, however as she was the only vet on duty that night and not well-versed in bones, she could only make another appt to refer us to another doc, who specialises in bones. She knew we always see Dr Ly but he is on leave until end Jul 10. Meanwhile she gave some pain killers to ease his pain. Took an xray and a morphine jab and got few packets of medicines. That day's bill came up to S$369 (what a nice number!).

Next day Dr Madeline Soo called to follow up and reminded on what to avoid and what to bring on the appt day with the other vet. Nice lady!

On Fri, 2 Jul brought Georgi to see Dr Eugene Lin of ARC Greendale branch. Dr Lin said shoulder dislocation is very very rare unless you kenna knocked down by car or something. Oh well, it's Georgi.. he got weak joints.. I'm sure this is not uncommon in his case. After telling Dr Lin the same thing, he finally understood why... He was a nice doctor too and advised on the pros and cons. He did not encourage surgery coz there will be complications. He managed to push it back and thank God! However needs review in 2 weeks coz that area might still be weak and need to monitor to make sure it does not pop back out. Georgi left front leg was bound and he could only use 3 legs to walk. Took blood test, GA, detailed xray, some joint supplements and other misc charges and total bill was S$639 (just swop the 3 and the 6 but made hell lotsa difference! Nice!)

Next day Dr Lin called to follow up and check on Georgi's condition. Asked to feel his paws if they were swollen, etc.

So on Fri, Sat & Sun, we had been keeping a close watch on Georgi and monitored his food intake, bowel movements and mobility. He was just too weak to walk on 3 legs.. tried hopping around but I could tell he was struggling badly. He lied down most of the time and did not have mood to eat. Did not poo since Fri, until this morning.

On sun, we decided we could not wait for 2 weeks and arranged to bring him back to Dr Lin on Mon, hoping to get a better re-bandage to make him more comfortable.

As I was working today, Baby brought him there and explained to Dr Lin Georgi's difficulties. Dr Lin was really nice and empathised with us so decided to take another xray to check on his condition. He even smelled his left paws to make sure it's not rotten or something.. hehe.. and finally concluded he can remove his bandage completely and let him walk on 4 legs again! Thank God for that man! The bandage was so sticky it stuck onto his beautiful fur so Georgi whined when they remove it.. I could totally imagine how painful it was when they pulled the bandage and skin and fur was being pulled as well. I hoped his furs are still intact... Total bill S$139.

After 3 days of full bandage with soreness and no blood circulation, he was not able to walk normally on 4 legs at the moment. His left paw is swollen now.. Georgi is slowly getting used to walking on 4 again. We have to monitor closely and give extra TLC, making sure he does not get too excited and hurt himself, especially the shoulder, again. He is now sleeping and I can't wait to go back and see him. My poor boy.. hope he gets back to normal real soon..

Caught these 2 movies last weekend.

SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE

A simple and straightforward movie. I totally love all the bluntness and crude humour. Which "average 5" guy (or as a matter of fact all guys) doesn't want a "perfect 10" woman rite? You should not miss if you need a good laugh.

L'IMMORTEL (22 BULLETS)

This is what I call a true blue French movie.. First of all, French movie (or any other foreign movie) should be in French (or their original language) and not English dubbed! This show reminds me of God Father again.. hahah I think all Mafia movies remind me of that.

Why "22 Bullets"? It's coz of the number of bullets that was shot into Jean Reno's Charly Mattei body at one go and miraculously (or should I say ridiculously) he survived! How can it be right? However apart from this ridiculous miracle, it was a damn great show! A story of betrayal, honour and integrity of a retired mobster and how he settled scores with his perpetrators - a total killing spree. I guess as the old saying goes, once you are in gangs, you can never really escape out of it.

This tagline speaks for the movie: "Spilled blood never dries......"

A-team was good fun. A humourous action movie with good cast. If you had watched the original TV show in the 80s, you might have a different view.

MARMADUKE

About a family (including the dog) who learn how to live a new life in a new neighbourhood. Marmaduke shows a dog's point of view in adapting to a new environment. The script was very normal. I guess I was entertained because I'm a dog lover so I love watching all the dogs in the show. However I have never liked the idea of real dog talking. It's just so unnatural and kinda spoil the whole movie. If you are not an animal fan, you can save those bucks.

Went for movie preview of THE KARATE KID yesterday.

Although a remake from the original film, it's a very refreshing piece and much better than I expected it to turn out. The Beijing sceneries near the mountains were majestic. The main focus was of course Jaden Smith and he is just so funny and lovable. I think he really puts in great effort and dedication to this movie. His performance was truly applaudable, which many did when the credit rolls. Shall not reveal too much and I highly recommend all to catch this movie.

Caught D13: U last weekend.

Firstly I was super disapppointed coz it's DUBBED!!! How could they dubbed a French movie? It should be in French with English subs.. Other than that, this movie was power packed with energy plus the always funny French humors (could have been better in French lor!). The free running or parkour movements were damn swift and impressive! Inspirational like Ip Man's kungfu! hahaha...

Overall I'm still quite affected by the dubbing. It's never the same when it's not original!

Robin Hood

Went for the premier of ROBIN HOOD at Iluma couple of days ago.

Wasn't expecting it to be great but turned out to be decent and good enough to sit thru it. Russell Crowe, despite being a little too fat as Robin Hood, still did justice to his role. The cast was great, actions were nicely choerographed, plus some fun humour incorporated.

It's not really a must watch in theatre I would say and I'm lucky I did not need to spend a single cent for it.

Ip Man 2

Caught IP MAN 2 at Vivo while grooming Georgi again.. Making full use of time.. hehe..

I'm impressed with the martial arts displayed in the movie. Was the real Ip Man always that cool? Coz Donnie Yen was so coooooool... until emotionless! haha.. Anyway he inspired me to want to learn martial arts.. hehe

I love the scene when he knocked the Ang Moh down! Right after that scene, quite a number of people in the cinema applauded in unity, less the standing ovation.. haha.. but hmmmm the applauses were not as outstanding as Iron Man 2. But but but that's of course! :P

The small Ah Bui (洪金宝's son) looked bloody hell like the Ah Fat from "UP" and the young Bruce Lee was cute and funny or what!

I heard Ip Man 1 was way better (a pity I did not watch it then) so warning: You might be disappointed with part 2 if you have watched part 1.

Heartwarming story.....

Extracted from an email.. Dunno who did it but it sure is heartwarming :)

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her.. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it.. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar handwriting.. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies..' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by..

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Went for Stereophonics "Keep Calm and Carry On" Tour.

Rather shitty feeling coz clashed with Adidas Original Street Party at Clifford Square on the same day!

Supposed to start at 8pm and they only appeared at 915pm!

Concert ended at about 11pm.

A little saga nearing the end of concert. An eeeediot, on their last song (before a possibility of an encore), threw a bloody flip flop at Kelly Jones, the lead singer! What a friggin spoiler! Kelly Jones, who sang halfway, jus cooly picked up the smelly piece of shit, said "Good Night" and left the stage, followed by his other band members. Organisers and in-charge came searching for the culprit, some big guy at the back stormed forward while scolding "You Fucking Cunt! and blar blar blar" trying to locate the guy to have a thrash out session. Everyone else infront was pointing fingers at the eeeeediot's direction and that big guy followed the finger pointing direction.. haha.. Eventually the culprit was "escorted" out of the scene and after 10mins of waiting, the band came back on and ended with 2 new songs and no encore... Sigh...

They were somehow "calm" on the flying slipper, at least they did not go crazy. However they did not really "carry on" but disappeared and made us waited for another 10mins before reappearing. Watched IRON MAN 2 (DIGITAL) last weekend.

One word to summarise: Awesome! I have to put another poster with RDJ's face too coz he is too charming to resist!

Even thou a sequel but still a blast! As always RDJ did not disappoint me. I think nobody could ever replace him as Iron Man. Everything he did was effortless. He is THAT impressive! Sorry but I'm a sucker! haha. And Those who left the cinema (kiasu ppl who like to be the first to exit) during credits are eeeeeediots, coz you all missed the gist of next sequel - Thor! Muahahahha

Hint: Next time when you watch any Marvel/DC movie, please dun be typical kiasu and leave the cinema first thing the credit rolls coz you confirmed will miss out something!

Joke (actual event): Someone asked for Iron Man 2 in 3D at the ticketing counter and was told by the staff there's no 3D for Iron Man. So that guy asked the staff, "Then what is digital??" DEY! 3D does not mean 3Digital hor!

Watched the following 2 movies last weekend:

SHUTTER ISLAND

Very interesting and unexpected twist at the end. I watched it twice and it was totally worth it, coz the 2nd viewing allowed me to piece everything together and had a clearer picture as they revealed all the plots & characters (mayb I'm the only anal one that analyse too much!). You might feel cheated or rather disoriented after the show but that's the interesting part coz it makes you wanna think backwards (and again mayb I think too much.. hahaha) IMO this is one of the best movie plots so far..

KICK ASS

This is not your typical superhero movie (if you think it is, you will be utterly disappointed). This movie is pure entertainment and wickedly funny. Bloody violent with all the gruesome killings! Hit Girl really kicked asses man! My favourite character!

Baby and I brought Georgi to East Coast for a walk after a heavy dinner at Carls Junior last Sat. As the right side of the park is quieter and had lesser crowd, we decided to head towards that side of the park for a stroll. It was 12+am. As we walked along, Georgi kept wanting to U-turn back and we really had no idea what he wanted. Thinking he was just being pure lazy, we continued to drag him forward. But his insistence in turning back eventually convinced us to just turn back, feeling puzzled. As we walked back, we decided to try walking the other way instead (the left side and more crowded part of the park). He did not react the same way he did earlier and walked as we led him without difficulty.

Until now we still do not understand why he reacted that way that night. We both guess it was a SIGN to hint/tell us something....

Caught DATE NIGHT while Georgi had his grooming last Sat.

It's really pure entertainment and comedy with plenty of thrills and actions. Funnier than I expected. I have to say I quite liked the plot (something different and refreshing) despite the over-exaggerated and unrealistic storyline. The 2 veteran comedians just made it better! A nice weekend movie to watch with your partner.

THE LOVELY BONES

Very long winded and alot of pointless "artistic" scenes. It's like a girl's dream more than anything else. I think the poster is the nicest part. Peter Jackson should just stick to genre like Lord of the Rings.

CLASH OF THE TITANS 3D

Baby said the story changed. Watch only if you are a sucker for power visuals and graphics, not for the script. The last min 3D is a waste of money. The only obvious 3D effect was the chinese subtitles. Just watch in 2D will do.

REC2

I love the unexpected ending! Engaging and enraging at the same time. Better than part 1 IMO. Judging from the ending, I expected part 3 and true enough, after googling, I found this: REC3. haha...

A SINGLE MAN

As this is a gay movie, we were practically surrounded by them in the cinema. Baby felt really out of place but it was a feast for my eyes.. hahah..

Rich, stylish, charming, emotional and funny, with really great performance by the cast, especially by Colin Firth. The director, Tom Ford, being a fashion designer, paid great attention to details on the mens fashion, and Baby was so jealous of the fact that the shirts wore by George in the movie simply did not crease no matter what he did. His house was so stylo!

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, be it emotionally or visually (the good looking guys and fashion in the movie) :D

Caught the sneaks over CNY period. Beginning was rather impressive and the effects were actually quite cool. But it got quite dull and silly as it goes along with very much expected plot. Not a WOW movie ..

You may not believe me but I have never watched this since it first started. My friends suggested watching so I went along. I have to say it's a damn silly movie (I guess it's meant to be like this from the start) but it did tickle me quite a bit. Some jokes were really funny and original. Overall I enjoyed it and I guess I might catch it next year .. sometimes it's good to have no expectations .. haha ..

Caught this Irish film "KISSES" at Picturehouse during the weekend. This movie is only available at Picturehouse.

Btw I still don't understand the logic of "No Food Allowed" in Picturehouse. What's the difference between this and other cinemas/theatres? Hmmmm...

A very natural, simple and straightforward movie about two young kids running away from their problematic homes, exploring the streets of Dublin together with interesting encounters. The emotions were very well conveyed. Short film but worth watching and leaves you wanting more. Foreign films always managed to make their shows damn arty farty!

HACHIKO

I wrote about this in one of my posts 2 years back (HERE) and finally I get to watch it!

Crying galore again.. just so emotional when it comes to dogs. The whole movie was great and the dog's acting was superb - power training! The Akitas puppies, even the adults ones featured were really adorable and until now I just can't seem to differentiate them with Shiba Inu.

Although this remake was not exactly following the original true case but the gist is there and it's still a beautiful story of absolute loyalty and undying love.

I have the original Japanese version at home and have watched it long time ago. I think I'm going to watch it again for comparison. This is the trailer of the original Japanese version:

IT'S COMPLICATED

I'm watching this cos of the talented Meryl Streep. I expected the story to be quite stupid but it did not turn out as bad as I thought. Quite funny and very adult-oriented middle age romantic comedy. Not really that complicated afterall.. It's watchable for a laugh...

THE BLIND SIDE

I have to say a thousand times that I have always loved to watch or read biography and true events/story. The Blind Side is simple, sweet, touching, humorous, heart-warming, uplifting and inspirational. This is one feel-good movie and Sandra Bullock's performance rocks. Undeniably worth-watching. Now I'm intrigued to read the book and wonder how it will be like..

I think this movie is too "cool" to be true. Storyline rather unrealistic and overboard but I like the plot and the extremeness of it - heartless and revengeful. Overall: Brilliant!

MUMMENSCHANZ

Baby and I went to this speechless muppet performance at Esplanade on 18 Jan (they were here for only 2 days). I have never attended a show that is of total silence yet still so entertaining and interactive. Whole theatre was so quiet you can hear a pin drop but this extraodinary theatrical experience was great! It's "humanless" thou it's all acted by humans. The interaction and participation with audiences was awesome and we were totally tickled by the humour thru all the gestures. Never regretted watching it.

Caught IT'S NOT ME, I SWEAR! last weekend.

I SWEAR foreign film makers are very good at making normal story interesting.. very interesting in fact. This is the next best thing I had come across after The Diving Bell & The Butterfly.

C'est Pas Moi, Je le Jure! was dramatic and artsy in a way and has this dark and disquieting aura. It's emotional and yet comical. Credit to the boy (Leon), who was such a great actor, and not forgetting cute too! This is a truly beautiful, enjoyable and unforgettable movie. A must watch!

I love this spot on line: "It's better not to lie, but it's worse to lie badly!"

Synopsis:

In the summer of 68, Leon Dor (Antoine L'Ecuyer) comes close to hanging himself accidentally. His mother saves him at the last minute, just like last summer in the pool and like two years ago in the freezer. At ten, Leon has lots of problems and an overly fertile imagination. There is Mom (Suzanne Clment) and Dad (Daniel Brire) who are always fighting and those annoying neighbours who get to spend the summer at the beach. And then, theres Lea (Catherine Faucher), the exasperating girl whos always right about everything.

When Mom decides to leave everything behind to start a new life in Greece, Lon is prepared to do anything to kill the pain destroy the neighbours house, become a professional liar and even, why not, fall in love with Lea. Together, they will overcome the pain of growing up when you feel abandoned.

I was basically nua-ing at home during my break from work since 19 Dec and I totally could not bring myself to blog.. plus I have been fiddling with my newly bought iPhone, so I guess that explained much on my laziness to blog.. haha..

Anyway nothing much happened except for some mini gatherings and outings. Baby and I had a nice dinner and drinks on Christmas Day. We wanted to fill our stomach with some good steak so I did some research and found ULURU and THE STEAKHOUSE. After going through some reviews I decided on the former and confirmed my reservations. But for some reasons nearer to date, they told me they decided to close for that day so we visited The Steakhouse at Clarke Quay instead. I have to rave about their saute mushrooms. It was delicious! Their mashed potato was nice too and the beef was good! Both of us enjoyed the dinner and the bill came up to about S$260+. Our verdict is to only go back if we can't find any other steakhouse better than this (similar or cheaper price) or if we are feeling rich again.. We would also like to try Uluru and Mortens in time to come.

I also went to Bodyworld with Penny at Science Centre. Thou it was quite interesting and very informative, I have to say I was rather disappointed with the scale of the exhibition. It was not as spectacular as I thought it would be. I probably expected too much.

Last but not least, caught these two movies before the new year.

It's a must watch in 3D cos it's spectacular. Sitting thru the movie for 2hrs 40mins was not an issue at all. Very entertaining, imaginative and visually stunning. Thou the story was interesting, the love between Neytiri and Jake felt a little awkward, especially the love scene. Overall it's a one-of-a-kind show you won't want to miss.

SHERLOCK HOLMES

It was great fun watching Robert Downey Jr. play Sherlock Holmes (the messy and dirty version) and Downey is still as charming as ever. The movie was witty, clever, engaging and full of actions. Judging by the ending, a sequel is a guarantee.

I am sorry to report that we cannot control the amount of salt used in the food . The Grill House suggests that people with high blood pressure taste a bite first.

There will be fresh "low sugar" fruits as dessert for diabetics, but therestaurant cannot supply "no sugar" desserts. Sorry!

Beyond A Reasonable Doubt, Gomorrah & Zombieland

Caught the following movies recently.

BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT

Initially I thought the ending was quite abrupt but it was actually not the end yet. A nice and unexpected twist, which took me a while to digest.. haha.. Reviews were not great but I personally quite like the story.

GOMORRAH

What you wish to know about mafias, gangsterism, corruption and exploitation can be found in this movie. Some might find it boring as I saw quite a handful of people left the theatre not even halfway thru the 2hrs 15mins show. I thought the opening was very cool. This movie is strictly business and merciless, which reminded me of the movie "Godfather".

ZOMBIELAND

Releasing: 3 Dec 09

Did not regret going for this preview screening yesterday. I would name this a horrifying comedy. Super gory (lotsa flesh tearing scenes and blood sheds) with occasional startles when the zombies suddenly appeared! Bill Murray part was funny coz he's already a comedian! I love the script with all the funny rules to survive the zombies and interesting ways to kill them. Must watch if you want to be tickled and scared at the same time.. hehe...

Georgi howl / cry?

Few days back in the middle of the night, Georgi howled (btw Georgi never howled and this was the 1st time)! I dunno if it's a howl or cry but his "screams", which was more effective than my alarm clock, startled me! He was dreaming for sure but I really wonder what he was dreaming about. When I patted and looked at him, he was awake and seem normal.

More a suspense thriller than horror for me. Very very predictable and I already knew who was the mastermind, thou they tried very hard not to portray that in the beginning. The child actress, Jodelle Ferland was really good in her role. Her creepy and evil disposition somehow or rather reminded me of Esther from ORPHAN and Joshua from JOSHUA. Hollywood child actors are really quite good in evil roles..

Thou overall not too bad a movie with OK storyline, it's not exactly worth paying S$10 unless you are a sucker for such genre.

What's the point of planning ahead for your own future when you can't even plan/think the same for your dog, who is supposed to be part of your family and life?

Yes it's definitely better than just throw the dogs aside or to spca but do you know dogs do develop love and feelings for his owner/current family and it's whole-hearted? Have you ever thought how your dog will feel when you do this to them? And imagine they have to adjust to a new home all over again with the fear of being abandon one or maybe many more times coz of your stupid mistake? Don't ever disregard their feelings and simply think "They are just dogs".

Went for the Gala Premiere of 2012 yesterday at Shaw Lido.

One serious helluva roller coaster ride for me! The only thing I wanna rave about was the powerful and eye-popping special effects! You have to give it to Hollywood. They are damn good at such things! Simply destructive! There were also humorous moments such as the Bentley scene - most of us were so engrossed in the panic situation that the joke came out really unexpectedly, and everyone literally burst out in unison.. it's classic! haha..

IMO not a very strong script and abit unrealistic on the numerous escapes and brushes with death but the 2.5hrs movie was overall engaging and I was thoroughly entertained. But I'm still very skeptical about this prediction.

Caught the sneaks of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY during the weekends.

Like me, many of you may be bored at the beginning for about 1/2 an hour but dun be fooled coz the tension slowly builds up as the movie goes along. For a low budget and simple movie, the suspense level was quite high. Trust me, you will always keep your focus on the time ticking away and at the same time expect something to happen everytime. I went to watch this movie with no expectations and the turn out was a good surprise. They definitely did a nice job by delivering substantial creeps. It's not very horrifying but the scares were genuine enough and I have to say not many people will appreciate this film. IMO, anytime better than SAW or Halloween...

Btw they claimed "Nightmares are guaranteed". However I slept peacefully and soundly throughout that night.. hehe

P/S: A lot of people misunderstood and tot this was from a real event. Yes it looks like one but is totally fictitious! Enjoy!

Caught the preview screening of MJ'S THIS IS IT yesterday.

Opens worldwide today for 2 weeks only

Firstly please note that this is NOT an insight to MJ's life but a rehearsal documentary. You will love it and a must watch, ESPECIALLY if you are a MJ fan. I'm not exactly one, but I enjoyed some of his older songs and watched it since it's a company free screening. They featured a good number of his famous songs and behind-the-scenes moments, with heartfelt comments from the crew, interesting conversation and humour.

I have to say I really admire his dances and dancers (he picked and chose every single one of them from a big dance audition). Every beat from his musicians to every movement from him and his dancers was in such great coordination and synchronization. MJ was really a perfectionist and he was so driven and still full of energy then!

His concert could have been a real spectacle, if he did not make that mistake....

I was full of anticipation when I first saw the poster of this movie. It was intriguing and seemed like an interesting show to watch. Thou the Sci-fi appeal was not bad and it was visually quite entertaining, I felt that the plot was rather weak and did not quite deliver the message powerfully. Forgettable.

Ok I totally regretted watching this. It's jus another rendition of "I know what you did last summer". And funny how these killers always seemed to have unlimited supply of the same weapon. You would see one stuck onto a victim's body and next moment he would have another one ready to use on another victim. *Rolleyes* This slasher shit is getting more and more boring. A waste of my time.

(500) DAYS OF SUMMER

Quite refreshing to see a different kind of romcom. A quirky, witty and honest movie I would say. I love how the story winds backward and forward in time. The expectation and reality split screen scene was really cool too. Well.. at least the conclusion/ending was not cliche. Nice.

THE BLUE MANSION

One of the better local films I have watched. Wacky and dramatic with interesting plot and a nice set of cast. Having a control freak for a father, it's no wonder the children had pent up frustrations. FYI the conversations were crucial in understanding the story. Surprisingly the "F" bombs were quite liberally used and the full frontal nudity was a bold and nice change for our local movie industry. Thumbs up!

THE HURT LOCKER

Super intense, edgy and explosive movie! It was so well made and well-acted that it literally looked like a documentary! Real or what! Bombs disarming is indeed the toughest and most dangerous job in the world. There were some nail-biting moments and many a time got me on the edge of my seat, wondering whether the bombs would explode. It's truly one hardcore and heart-thumping battlefield thriller. FANTASTIC!

This is a super out-dated post. Had a short getaway with Baby for my birthday celerbation. We stayed at The Kayana Villa at Seminyak, Bali for 4D3N.

On day 1, we went to Kuta Beach and Legian area. Villa provide free shuttle service - very thoughtful.

We had our 1st dinner there. Baby's friend owns this place and tot we could say hi to him but he was not there tat night.

Did not upload the food pictures coz all turned out too dark but they serve great tasting food. I had some beef stew thingy and the beef was very very tender.

Day 2

Breakfast was in villa. We get to choose from different breakfast types. Something tat shocked both of us was the staff actually could tell what we each wanted to eat. No name was indicated when we selected the items the night before. We jus picked what we wanted eg. I chose scramble eggs, yoghurt and coffee and Baby chose omelette, orange juice and tea. From the above picture, you can see it was layed out exactly what we have individually chosen - no mistake at all. It's totally coincidental but super duper amazing!

Anyway this only happened once. The rest of our breakfast were not in accordance.. haha

This was where we had lunch - a Traditional looking Jap Restaurant at Legian area

Presentation not great but the sushi were very fresh!

Our package came with a complimentary massage for a couple but Baby does not like massages so they were flexible enough to let me have 2 massages. I had the first one on 2nd day.

After the relaxing massage, we had seafood dinner at Sharkey's at Jimbaran area.

They used to be situated with all the seafood outlets along Jimbaran beach. Now they have their own cozy corner. Nice!

Overlooking the sea. Some kids were putting up fireworks at the beach and we had a clear view of the nice fireworks!

This ice lemon tea was fantastically nice! I had 2 servings.

Our seafood spread. 2 big lobsters, 10pcs medium prawns and a garoupa with free sambal kangkong and rice only cost us about S$100. Worth it!

Day 3

We explored Seminyak area, had some light lunch at a cafe and jus lazed ard, went back for my 2nd massage and prepared for nice dinner at KU DE TA.

I forgot what soup is this but it's really nice. Basically their food are simply delicious! You cannot get such standards in Singapore, seriously. I'm missing them now!

I had the Salmon fillet with crispy rosti, spinach puree with cauliflower in some sourish cream sauce. The half cook Salmon was super tender and look at the salmon roes layed on top! They were so fresh they dun taste fishy at all! The rosti was the best rosti I have ever tasted!

Baby had some steak with mash potatoes. Very tender as well. Nice!

These potato thingy were beyond description - crispy and tasty! The creamy spinach behind was rich and delicious!

After dinner, we moved to the beach front area and enjoyed the sea breeze and nite view.

The currents were very strong

I cannot remember the exact price but this One-bedroom Pool Villa package was about USD300 per night and comes with the following:
* Welcome drink

* 2-way transfer from airport to hotel
* Complimentary breakfast for 2 pax
* Complimentary tea for 2 pax
* Complimentary mini bar for first day
* Complimentary massage for 2 pax
* Free shuttle service to and from Kayana/Legian/Seminyak

The best part was the air ticket coz we paid ONLY S$134 (including all taxes & surcharges) for 2 pax on AirAsia. Overall we had a very pleasant trip and stay in Kayana and will definitely visit again.

Horror effect: 0. Last story was more funny than scary. But I have to give it to them on the humour for the last story coz they were really quite hilarious. Other that that, not really worth spending S$10.

Interesting fictional story but quite illogical to label this condition as a genetic problem. The time travelling parts were quite weird. Not very WOW. I think the book will be a better bet.

Guilty of credit card fraud

RECENTLY crowned Miss Singapore World Ris Low, 19, had earlier been found guilty of credit-card fraud.

The beauty queen was convicted of five charges of misappropriation, cheating using illegally obtained credit cards, and impersonating their users' identities.

Inglourious Basterds

Watched INGLOURIOUS BASTERD last weekend.

I've always had some difficulties watching Quentin Tarantino's movies coz they always jump all over the place. I quite like that the sequence for this one was in order and easy to grasp. However I did not really understand some parts on the WWII as I'm not a history scoring student.. haha.. so got Baby to explain them to me. Other than that, it's a truly sick and revengeful movie with good amount of sarcastic humors and graphics violence. I really like Landa's character as he was damn smart and yet such a despicable bastard! He is the kind you will love to hate!

Thou it was a 2.5hrs film, but I was pretty much immersed in every part of the show so it did not seem long at all. Even the most redundant part that took up about 20mins was ridiculously enjoyable and exciting! Worth watching.

Watched 9 last weekend.

The script was not as catchy as I thought it would be but visually very impressive. The outlook of the animated characters were refreshing, however I just dun feel quite satisfied after the whole show. And for the gamblers and die-hard 4D fans, you will get inspiration of 4 numbers at the end of movie... hee

This was the original short story.

I think now I know why I was not satisfied. IMO: The movie could have been better without the character voices.

Deadly truth about Pedigree Dogs EXPOSED!

It's really quite upsetting to see this and realise that pedigree dogs are terribly interbred and that their appearances are altered to such extent. I was also quite pissed with how the "unbelievers" and "deniers" avoided the issue and still stand by their obstinate views on interbreeding and standards of show dog.

No wonder those unhealthy and problematic dogs are always the Pedigree ones, who are supposedly good breeds with perfect genes. Due to the interbreeding, all the genetic problems from the parents are passed down to the offsprings and the vicious cycle goes on and on, some even got worse inheriting all sorts of health problems, diseases and disabilities.

Now I know why Mongrels and strays are so much healthier than most pedigree dogs.

I dun think I will be supporting any pedigree dog shows moving forward coz altering the appearance of the dog (not for the better but worse!) just to meet the standards of a so called show dog is pure cruelty. And to think that by interbreeding with own "family members" the offsprings will inherit all the "good" genes from one another is simply crap!

BS equation

Pure/Pedigree dogs (full of problems/unhealthy) = High class breeds with show dog quality

Mongrels/Strays (healthy and strong) = Low class breeds and not up to standards

I suggest all dog owners and dog lovers, especially pedigree dog lovers, to watch this 1 hr documentary. It's really shocking. Outrageous!

The truth is painful.

p/s: I really really hope and pray that Georgi's not the offspring of his father/sister, mother/brother or sister/brother.

Couple of movies I've caught recently.

DIARY OF A SEX ADDICT

This Spanish movie's story was OK.. The woman in the show appeared to be quite naive about life at the age of 29. Being a working class lady and having been exposed to so many men and situations in her life, she did not know what she wants and how the world is like. Logically it's quite impossible at that age. Hmmm.. mayb they trying to make this movie arty farty..

Nonetheless still interesting to watch to understand the life of a sex addict, something that not many people are easily exposed to. Somehow or rather I would think a man sex addict will make a better story.. haha..

THE UGLY TRUTH

Went for the free screening 2 days back. Nice show. Thou the story was very predictable, I love the witty and naughty dialogues. As usual Gerard Butler is hot and I like Katherine Heigl's performance - very natural and funny. If you are a fan of romantic comedy, you will love this show.

Some women can get pissed over the slightest thing!

This is what I saw with my own eyes in the train this morning.

BF & GF seated separately by a seat.
BF held on to GF's bag (typical Singaporean men's trait).
When person between them left, BF did not move to sit next to GF (GF also did not move next to BF).
Then old auntie came & sit in between them.
GF reached over & grab her bag from BF & ignore him.
Finally old auntie got off train, BF swiftly move his butt next to GF.
GF face like charcoal & ignore him all the way!
BTW as if the bag was not enough, BF even carries GF's ezlink card! So heavy hor the card...
